At Columbus Academy, we understand the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children attending our preschool program. We strive to create an atmosphere that encourages and accepts applications from students, teachers, and staff without discrimination. We also believe that discipline is an essential part of learning and should be used as a teaching tool rather than as punishment. Our discipline policy is designed to help children understand their behavior and how it affects others.
We use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise and rewards to encourage good behavior. We also use logical consequences such as time-outs or loss of privileges when necessary. Separation, when used as a disciplinary measure, should be brief and appropriate to the child's age and developmental capacity. The child should be in the sight and ear of a preschool staff member in a safe, bright, well-ventilated space. At Columbus Academy, we strive to be consistent and fair in our expectations for behavior and in our responses to misbehavior.
We also strive to be developmentally appropriate so that children understand why their behavior is unacceptable. We believe that discipline should help children develop self-discipline so that they can make good decisions on their own. We are committed to providing an exceptional academic education and a wide range of extracurricular opportunities for students ages 3 to 12 from across central Ohio. Our teachers enable students to learn inside and outside the classroom, from formative preschool activities to the first steps of academic mastery in high school and traditional college preparatory disciplines. At Columbus Academy, we are dedicated to helping parents understand our discipline policy so that they can support their children in making good decisions. We believe that by providing a safe and nurturing environment, we can help children learn self-discipline and respect for others.
